"Whatever you do whether in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father." Col. 3:17
Regarding the quote from yesterday, I just wanted to say that everything that we do in this world, we can do to glorify the Lord. The world can watch us as we handle car parts, insurance policies, and handle political legislation. These things do matter, when we look at Who we are doing them for, and our attitude towards doing them. Even taking out the trash can be done for the glory of God.
The purpose of the quote is to show how important mothering is, and that it is eternal.
Dave and I firmly believe that we are all called to be missionaries (Mark 16:15) as we carry out the tasks that God has given us, no matter how mundane or seemingly insignificant. So, as we as mothers carry out our God-given task in the home, we can still shine our light before men as we go the grocery store, get gas at the gas station, and other various ways we do the mundane. And, as we are carrying out our job in the home, our husbands and others can be shining their lights before men in the workplace, no matter what job it is...it can be done for His glory!!
"In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16

Even though I am not a mom yet this post really challenged me. People are watching and I think that it is so important to ask ourselves if they see Jesus in us?
Thanks for getting me thinking :)
Blessings!

I agree wholeheartedly with what you have expressed in this post Joy. I often use the analogy of an ambassador when I am trying to teach my children about how we represent Christ and our family, especially when we are out and about, not just for special occasions such as weddings but - as you say doing the everyday mundane things such as grocery shopping or taking out the trash - the neighbours may be watching! (reminds me of the scene in the movie 'Fireproof') Ambassadors who represent their country of origin, usually travel to other countries and may even live there as you do as a missionaries. When we are aware of whom we represent and understand that it is indeed a royal commission, for the King of Kings, our Lord Jesus Christ, it makes us examine everything we do when we come into contact with people - how we speak, behave, how we dress and even the expression we wear on our face. I also need to remind myself as a mother to do likewise when at home, others might not be watching but my children are.
This is an ongoing challenge for us, starting with me! More than once I have had to apologize to my children for setting a bad example by my response *ugh*. Thanks for encouraging us all.

Well said....that is so true...
True, but in all of lifes hectic i fail so often.
Sometimes hard to get 'back on track' ;)
Anyway a lot of grace needed overhere...
Amen sister!
I love the truth in this. That is my goal in the life God has given me. I find in my travels without the knowledge of how to apply all I desire from the influence of God and His heart. I often battle with how using my hidden gifts and talents and also growing the grace of Jesus so I not only can be but will be who God wants me to be as the Mother of my children. My 6 yr old son always says "Get it" when you babble so..... I was just thinking in context to this quote and the desires of the heart.... and How applying what we learn for the sake of our children.... I desire to be there..... I pray Gods truth would bind more quickly in my soul and flesh for the sake of these children. Thanks for the focus on this High calling of Motherhood. Smiles, Angelia in TX
Joy,
I just came across your blog this evening and I truly feel like the Lord led me here. My husband and I just had our fourth child a month ago. Along with her 3 year-old brother and 20 month-old twin sisters, I am finding it a struggle to focus on the GIFT of motherhood and consider it a blessing to just make it through the day. We juggle family life along with my husband's job as youth pastor at our church...where it has quickly evolved to other roles as usually happens in ministry. :) As a tired mom, I needed so badly the encouragement that I found in your blog. Thank you for being so focused on God's view of mommies because it certainly helped me refocus too! Reading the Scriptures and quotes you've shared, I feel refreshed - something I haven't felt for a while! So, thank you. God is using you greatly, especially in the life of this young mom from Indiana! You are a blessing.

Amen! I couldn't agree more Joy! :) It is my goal to live a life pleasing to the Lord with every breath I take. I am *far* from perfect in and of myself...but His perfection enables me to strive daily to please Him! :)
